The Žatecký Světlý Ležák beer follows a distinctive recipe, penned by Tomas Lejsek, an acclaimed brewmaster hailing from the Czech Republic. Its distinguishing feature is the Žatec hop, bestowing the beer with a balance of mild bitterness and an appealing aroma.

Records of the Žatec hop, also recognized as Saaz, date back to the early part of the 11th century. Evidence suggests that as early as 1101, these hops were being traded in the Hamburg market. The Žatec region marked the establishment of a brewing society in 1261, where they produced a beer celebrated for its unique qualities, intensity, and potency. The 18th century saw an expansion in Žatec with the presence of 30 malt houses and four breweries. Fast forward to the present, Saaz or Žatec hops, are still exclusive to the Žatec region, cultivated only within a restricted 40 km2 area. Recognized globally, these hops are held in high regard by beer connoisseurs, often considered among the finest in the world. Owing to their universal flavor profile, they have the potential to be acknowledged as the quintessential hop for Pilsner beers.
