Ripple and the University of Toronto Collaborate to Initiate Blockchain Learning Initiative

Ripple has teamed up with the University of Toronto, offering a series of educational programs, research opportunities, and technical innovations centered around blockchain technology.

This collaboration has been established as an integral part of Ripple’s Global University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure that educational establishments provide the knowledge and enhance the skills that will heighten students' marketability in the cryptocurrency sphere. The University of Toronto has expressed eagerness to step into the role of an autonomous validator of the XRP Ledger.

Eric van Miltenburg, Ripple’s Vice President of Strategic Development, has stated that Ripple has dedicated over $2 million to the UBRI in the past five years, with the intention of expanding blockchain and cryptocurrency knowledge across renowned educational institutions in Canada. Overall, the firm has committed roughly $47 million to universities globally, a figure set to rise to $80 million by the year 2023.

Van Miltenburg has observed that the UBRI's primary operations are conducted outside the United States, largely in response to US regulatory bodies' stricter stance against cryptocurrency enterprises, contrasting the more lenient attitude towards digital assets prevalent in other countries.
